Free Contraceptives for Women in Obama Health Insurance Plan

The Obama Adminstration announced health insurance companies will soon have to cover contraceptives for women with no co-pays, even in religious population states like Utah.

The subject is already causing controversy and several people are voicing their opinions on social media. Planned Parenthood in Utah, however, says it is an overall victory for women’s health via a Fox article.

The plan would affect millions of women in the nation and health insurance companies, which will be required to provide birth control for free. Under the plan, any FDA approved contraceptive will come at no cost for women, including the morning after pill.

The plan, which will likely go into effect at the beginning of 2013 is part of a broad expansion that would also include preventative coverage like breast pumps for nursing mothers and annual “well woman” physical and educational programs on how to avoid STD’s.
